French Journal Day 38 (Travel Diary Day 118)
(travel diary – strange-lands.com/daily/2012/11/09/a-haunted-hotel/)
I worked at putting the finishing touches to the downloadable HDR One Magazine today. I’m not a designer, and don’t know the first thing about fonts. A couple of weeks ago a reader generously went out of his was to email me and say that last month’s front cover was terrible – possible advertisers would be put off by it.
Taking his advice, I re-designed the cover and went for a more minimalistic look – I think it’s a noticeable improvement. Thank you Perry Dyke for your honest feedback. You can check out the design, and download the mag here:
I’ve had to push myself up a steep learning curve creating HDR One. It’s a completely new area for me, but I’ve got some great readers who, in their desire to see the magazine continue, have offered valuable guidance. I’ve also got an amazing set of HDR photographers who regularly contribute, which, in the end, is the only thing that matters – quality content is what will keep bringing people back.
And, after saying no to two potential advertisers who I didn’t think would benefit our readers, I’m pleased to say that Promote Sysetms (promotesystems.com/
), with their awesome remote, have partnered with us. After they approached me I spoke to two photographers who I know use their remote. They both sang the company’s praises, so it was a no-brainer.
Advertising and some sort of income is essential to the survival of the mag. It’s important that the magazine always remains free, however. As the months go by, I’m sure HDR One will see a number of changes which will ultimately determine its long-term success.
I’ve struggled to find an app maker, which I do consider an important part of the mag’s development. We’ll see how that one goes.
And the most important part of today, I bought a pair of slippers. I feel I’m at that age now where slippers are fine. Rachel laughed because the brand name is Eldy, which sounds like Elder. She’s 27. She thinks she’s great.
Today’s Photo – The haunted hotel
This haunted hotel sits on the main road in our little town. It’s for sale. Rachel and I have hatched a plan to pretend to be potential buyers so we can see inside the place. Unfortunately, during hatching phase of this plan, Rachel’s imagination got the better of her, and the next thing I knew, she’s talking about actually buying the place and starting a freaky haunted hotel gig.
I am curious about the price of it, to be honest…
